Here you will find answers to the questions we are asked most often. Can't find your question? Email us at info@kurswerkstatt-muc.de.
Workshops and participation
Do I need previous experience?
For most workshops, no. Whether basic skills are required is stated in each workshop description. The Basic Woodworking and Basic Leatherworking workshops are a good place to start.
How big are the groups?
Our workshops have no more than ten participants, our one-week intensive workshop no more than six. That leaves time for every question and every move.
Can I join if I don't speak German?
Yes. Workshops are taught in German, but all of our instructors speak English well and are happy to explain things in English. International participants are always welcome.
What is the minimum age?
Participants must be at least 18 years old.
What should I bring?
Sturdy, closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Tools and machines are provided in the studio. There are several options for lunch nearby; see below.
What about safety?
Every workshop begins with a safety briefing. You only use machines after instruction and under the supervision of the instructor.
Materials and your project
Are material costs included in the price?
In all woodworking workshops, material costs are included in the workshop fee. Technique and sharpening workshops require no materials. In leatherworking workshops, material costs are not included in the workshop fee; they are charged according to consumption and settled directly with the instructor on site.
In the project workshops (evening workshop, Friday morning and afternoon workshops, and the one-week intensive workshop) you build your own project. Once your project has been discussed, you can order the material through KursWerkstatt.
Can I take my project home?
Of course. Whatever you build in the workshop is yours.
Booking, cancellation and gift cards
How do I book a workshop?
Choose the workshop and your preferred date in the shop and complete the booking. You will then receive a booking confirmation by email. Please note: workshop bookings are binding; there is no statutory right of withdrawal.
What if I can't attend?
You can send a substitute participant free of charge at any time. If you cancel up to 31 days before the workshop starts, we charge only 5% of the workshop fee. From 30 days before the start, the full workshop fee is due. Unfortunately, switching to a different date is not possible. You can find all details under Cancellation and withdrawal.
What happens if a workshop is canceled?
If we cancel a workshop, for example because there are too few bookings or the instructor is sick, we will let you know as early as possible and refund the workshop fee in full or offer you an alternative date. Unfortunately, we cannot cover travel or accommodation costs, so please book your travel and hotel with free cancellation whenever possible.
Can I give a workshop as a gift?
Yes, with a gift card. It is valid for all workshops for three years, and the recipient chooses the workshop and date themselves.
Do you offer workshops for groups or companies?
Yes, on request we put together workshops for teams, companies or private groups. Just get in touch.
Getting here, lunch and where to stay
How do I get to the studio?
The studio is at Haager Straße 9, 4th floor, right next to Munich East station (Ostbahnhof). Coming by subway (U-Bahn), S-Bahn or streetcar, walk through the underpass beneath the station to the Friedenstraße exit. You will find a map on our About us page.
Where can I park?
Free parking spaces are reserved for our participants in the adjacent parking garage, on the top level D.
Where can I get lunch?
During the lunch break we often go together to the Wirtshaus Zum Brünnstein at Elsässer Straße 36, a traditional Bavarian inn just a few minutes' walk away by the Ostbahnhof.
If you prefer to bring your own, there is a Rewe supermarket less than a ten-minute walk away. The neighboring Werksviertel also has plenty of restaurants and food stands, for example Khanittha at Atelierstraße 14, serving authentic Thai food.
Where can I stay?
There are several hotels around the Ostbahnhof and in the Werksviertel. You will find a selection with contact details on our About us page. Please book your accommodation with free cancellation whenever possible.
