Beschreibung

Folding seats are among the oldest pieces of furniture there are. In antiquity, Roman officials sat on the sella curulis, a folding chair that marked their office, and in the early Middle Ages a folding stool was also a sign of rank: near Rothenburg/Endsee in Bavaria, an iron folding stool from around 600 AD was found in a woman's grave. The Church also used folding seats for bishops, the faldstool. The advantage was obvious: the seat could be folded up and taken anywhere. The folding stool in this workshop follows that tradition, using simple but ingenious medieval mortise and tenon joints that can be made with a few tools.

Kursinhalt

This furniture impresses with its simple yet ingenious joints. Almost forgotten today, draw-bored mortise-and-tenon joints are made with the simplest of means and offer enormous stability. This joint plays a key role in the piece you will build. The medieval construction is interpreted in a modern way, yet the medieval working methods are taught, so that you can easily reproduce other pieces of this kind with simple tools and from original models.
