Beschreibung

The hand plane is one of the oldest tools in woodworking, and planes survive even from Roman times. With it, a rough board becomes a flat one: you trim it, flatten it, joint it and clean up the surface. Jointing means planing the edge so straight that two boards fit together without a gap. This is the basis for table tops, cabinet sides and every glued-up piece of furniture. A hand-planed surface has its own sheen because the wood is cut cleanly rather than sanded. Anyone who masters these basics understands wood better and works more precisely with machines too.

Kursinhalt

Edging, flattening, jointing and smoothing a rough-sawn board is the best exercise for learning to use a plane and saw. The workshop teaches how to set up, sharpen and guide a plane, and how to approach different tasks. Metal planes as well as European wooden planes and Japanese planes are explained and used. A small project deepens your understanding of tools and material.
