Dovetail, mortise and tenon, sliding dovetail: classic wood joints have proven themselves for centuries because they work without metal fittings and hold the wood together mechanically and with large glue surfaces. The dovetail, for example, prevents a corner from being pulled apart, which is why it is used on drawers, chests and boxes. Mortise and tenon joints carry frames, tables and chairs. When made by hand, they are not only strong but also a visible expression of craftsmanship. Anyone who makes them with a saw, chisel and plane learns how wood behaves and can apply that knowledge to machine work later.

Working wood with classic hand tools still has a special appeal today. Hand-cut, visible joints have an individual beauty and show the skill of their maker. If you want to get to know the hand tools this requires, such as planes, saws and marking tools, and learn to use them properly, this workshop gives you the necessary grounding in theory and practice.

Material costs are included in the workshop fee.
